My approach

This website is designed to respect your privacy. It does not use any non-essential, advertising or tracking cookies, and it loads no advertising networks, social media trackers or profiling tools.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites can store on your device. They are commonly used to remember preferences or to measure how a site is used. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, non-essential cookies may only be set with your consent.

Cookies on this site

At present, this website sets no cookies that require your consent. The interactive map on the contact page loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap when you view that page; this is needed for the map to function.

Visitor measurement

To understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful, I use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that I host myself. It is deliberately chosen instead of the more common advertising-funded alternatives, and it works differently:

• It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
• It does not track you across other websites and does not build a profile of you.
• It records only aggregate information: page visited, referring site, approximate country, and general device or browser type.
• Your full IP address is not stored, and no data is sold or shared with advertisers.
• The data stays on infrastructure I control, not a third-party ad platform.

Because it uses no cookies or similar device storage, and collects no personal data, this measurement falls outside the consent requirement in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). That is why you are not being asked to accept a cookie banner.

If this changes

If cookies requiring consent are added in future, they will only be used after you have given consent through a cookie banner, and this page will be updated to list them. You will always be able to decline non-essential cookies and still use the site.

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Guidance for all major browsers is available at aboutcookies.org.
